Alpha is a uniquely designed fleece fabric that optimizes warmth and breathability, making it the ideal active insulation layer. With lofted fibers connected to a lattice of threads, Alpha continuously releases body heat, preventing discomfort while active.
Alpha’s top attributes:
- Regulates warmth: Alpha’s lofted fibers trap body heat to maintain warmth, while simultaneously releasing heat before it builds to a point of discomfort.
- Lightweight: average garment weights across styles range from just 3.5-7.5oz.
- Compressible: due to it’s low weight and knit design, Alpha packs down to nothing, making it the perfect layer to have on the go.
- Hydrophobic: it does not absorb sweat or water.
- Fast drying: as a porous fabric, Alpha dries incredible quickly
- Cozy as can be: the comfort of this fabric cannot be denied
Which weight is right for you?
Whichever you choose, you will be selecting a very light and packable layer that WILL be cozy!
Sambob makes hoodies in three different weights of Alpha: 60, 90, and 120 grams per square meter (gsm). This equates to an average weight of 3.5oz for a hoodie in the 60 weight, 5.5oz for a hoodie in the 90 weight, and 7.5oz for a hoodie in the 120 weight.
60gsm hoodies are a very lightweight layer ideal for the summer, as a layer in the morning during a run or to bring along in case of a chill in air in the evening
90gsm hoodies are a mid-weight layer popular amongst day hikers, runners, and thru-hikers alike, providing enough warmth on its own to be a stand alone layer and paired well with a wind or rain jacket for extra warmth.
120gsm hoodies are a "heavy-weight" layer optimal for early spring or late fall hiking or as a toasty layer to wear under your puffy in the depths of winter
